‘Scratch’ performance of ‘flux’ – Heywood Civic: 18th July 2026

A ‘scratch’ performance of a new, multimedia work by Out of Kilter Theatre will be included in ‘The Drop’, a showcase of new theatre at Heywood Civic on Saturday 18th July.

The performance will comprise extracts of work in progress on ‘flux’, an experimental and collaborative project merging spoken word, physical theatre, music, sound effects and film.

Set against the dramatic, ever-changing backdrop of a city over 24 hours, ‘flux’ takes us on a journey through brief moments in people’s lives and the life of the metropolis itself, reflecting universal themes of memory/mortality, vulnerability/resilience, love/loss, connection/alienation.

With this work we want to create an emotional, visceral experience prompting reflections on how we live today, our relationships to each other, to tech, to the environment and ultimately to emphasise the importance of community.

The aim is for the finished work’s format to be flexible so it can be shared in different ways with different audiences:

·       as a multimedia live performance

·       as an audiovisual production

·       as an aural-only production

The journey to this point, which started in 2021, hasn’t been easy with many, many setbacks along the way but persistence, commitment and hard work have paid off in the end; the script is finished, voice recordings are almost done and the focus now is on developing the performance of the piece alongside finalising music, sound effects and film/visual effects.
